“May I ask how old you are?”
“Yeah, sure, I just turned 41.”
“Oh, but you don’t look it at all! You look much younger! I think it’s more important how someone feels than how old they are in their ID card.”
But let me start with the beginning. It was a dreary Monday. Fog, rain, cold. People were sad and in a hurry. It was so hard to get out of bed and wished so much that I’d stayed in and let the soft touch of sleep caress me. I was glaring angrily, tossing and turning. I went to get my coffee in the hope of some reliable help in waking up. And then the conversation above. I can’t even tell you what a difference it made in my mood. My eyes came back to life, my body began to vibrate again, I felt awake and alive. To think that just a few moments before I was feeling tired, sleepy and sluggish.
So, yes, a compliment that came out of the blue and without any hidden intention, delivered with warmth and innocence, can change everything in the blink of an eye.
So next time you feel like giving someone a real compliment, do it! Don’t dwell on it not ever for a second, because that compliment can change someone’s mood and day in just seconds!
